Hong Kong Identity Card

  • Individuals who
    • aged 11 or above and,
    • are permitted to stay in Hong Kong for over 180 days are required to register for an identity card
  • There are 2 types of identity cards:
    • Juvenile identity card: for people who aged 11 to 17
    • Adult identity card: for people who aged 18 or above

Permanent Identity Card:

  • Individuals who have stayed in Hong Kong consecutively for over 7 years are qualified to apply for a Permanent Identity Card, provided that they have also fulfilled other requirements

Dependent

  • Eligible for the following dependants of valid Hong Kong Visa holders*:
    •  Spouse
    •  Unmarried children under 18 years old
    •  Hong Kong permanent residents’ parents over 60 years old
  • No prior permission required from the Hong Kong Immigration to participate in the following activities:
    • Employment / Change of Job
    • Starting up own business /company
    • Study / Change of School

* Not applicable to some visa(s)

Working Holiday

  • Targets national passport holders aged 18-30 of the 10 participating countries*
  • Annual quota for nationals of each participating countries varies
  • Permitted to stay up to 12 months for holiday**
  • Engagement in short-term employment and/or study or training course are allowed

*Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, United Kingdom (as at March 2016)

**Austrian applicants are permitted to stay up to 6 months

Training

  • Eligible for individuals entering Hong Kong to receive training on special skills and knowledge which can only be acquired in Hong Kong
  • Maximum training period: 12 months
  • A detailed training plan will be examined; currently the obtainment of long-term training visa (over 6 months) has become more challenging
  • In principle, training period permitted cannot be extended

Immigration Arrangement for Non-local Graduates (IANG)

  • Eligible for foreign graduates* who
    • have completed locally-accredited full-time undergraduate/ postgraduate programme(s) in Hong Kong and,
    • intend to stay/return to Hong Kong for employment as professionals
  • Permitted length of stay in Hong Kong will be 12 months
  • Applicants who are fresh non-local graduates# are not required to secure a confirmed offer of employment prior to the application
  • Applicants who are returning non-local graduates^ are required to secure a confirmed offer of employment prior to the application

*not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cuba, Laos, Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of), Nepal and Vietnam

Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (ASMTP)

  • Eligible for talented/professional Chinese residents of Mainland China to enter Hong Kong for employment
  • Applicants must possess:
    • high education background and;
    • work experience or professional knowledge which is rarely available in Hong Kong
  •  A remuneration package beyond Hong Kong market level is usually required accordingly
  • Prior confirmed job offer is a must

Investment

  • An individual taking up an employment as a shareholder and Director of a company in Hong Kong will need to apply for this visa.
  • In addition to the criteria required for an employment visa application, a disclosure of personal savings and assets will be required.

Employment

Employment Visa (Professional)

  • Eligible for foreign nationals entering Hong Kong for employment as professionals
  • permitted to stay up to 2 years for work
  • able to extend his/her stay up to 3 years per extension of stay application

Employment Visa (Chef)

  • Eligible for foreign nationals to take up employment in Hong Kong as Chefs
  • With proven qualification, knowledge and experience in culinary industry
  • Permitted to stay up to 2 years for work
  • Required to leave Hong Kong within 2 weeks after termination of contract

Employment Visa (Short Term)

  • Eligible for foreign nationals entering Hong Kong for employment for a short duration
  • Usually for:
    • Sales Events
    • Promotion Events
    • Concerts
    • Entertainment Shows
    • Same requirement and processing period as general employment visa
